A striking work.

The out of scale head effectively draws the eye towards the face and then down to the hands.
It almost manages to represent the development through thought to emotion before the letter itself becomes apparent.

Strangely, it feels like the natural continuation of the narrative in Gerard Ter Borch's "The Letter": With the warmer palette contrasting the closed uncertain tones of the original letter writer.

Very nice! I love how the background is a bit blurry in comparison to the woman. It sort of makes it look like the world is not as important when she's reading the letter.
